For the past 13 years the brave veterans and supporters of the Waffen SS hold their proud march in the Latvian capital of Riga. Once again the Russians, who should mind their own business along with bitter Jews and zionists are screeching their protests at these proud Aryans. Despite millions of Russians being resident in Latvia making up 1/3 of the population Latvia will not be cowed by the presence of foreigners and anti-Aryan zionists. RIGA, Latvia — Nearly 1,500 Latvians paid tribute on Friday to soldiers who fought in Nazi Germany's Waffen SS divisions, while nearby Russians held a counterprotest to recall war crimes committed against Jews and other minorities.

For many Latvians the annual procession from a Lutheran cathedral to the Freedom Monument in downtown Riga, the capital, is a memorial event for Latvian SS soldiers, known as Legionnaires, who fought for independence during World War II.

However, Latvia's minority Russians, who make up about one-third of the nation's 2.1 million people, consider the ceremony an insult to the millions who fought and died in the struggle against Nazi Germany.

This year about 100 Russians held their counterprotest about 30 yards (meters) from the Freedom Monument. Though quiet, the demonstrators hung large photographs of harrowing Holocaust scenes on wooden poles resembling gallows.

More than 1,000 policemen were mobilized to ensure the two groups didn't clash.

"The only possibility to fight for the restoration of Latvia's independence was in the Legion," said Alriks Vebers, 44, a Latvian who came to lay flowers in honor of a great uncle who fought in the Waffen SS. "And the Latvians didn't have a choice in the division's name."

Latvia, which gained its independence after World War I, was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940, then by Nazi Germany a year later, and again by the Soviets in 1944. The country restored its independence in 1991 after the Soviet Union collapsed.

About 250,000 Latvians fought alongside either the Germans or the Soviets — and some 150,000 Latvians died in the fighting.

Nearly 80,000 Jews, or 90 percent of Latvia's prewar Jewish population, were killed in 1941-42, two years before the formation of the Latvian Waffen SS unit — which some Latvians claim shows the unit could not have played a role in the Holocaust.

Today, Latvia's government distances itself from the ceremony, but many see it as a sign that Latvia has failed to acknowledge a dark page in its history.

"This is a state-sponsored legitimization of fascism," said Dovid Katz, a Yiddish scholar based in Vilnius, Lithuania, pointing to some lawmakers' support of the ceremony. "The worst of European history is being glorified here."

The Cancer of US Military Bases-Colonisation by the Evil Empire

The USA is an empire but unlike previous empires it does not operate from colonies in the traditional sense of the term but from military bases that it establishes on the soil of countries long ago beaten and subdued in war, such as Germany and Japan or by alliance with subordinate allies such as the United Kingdom.

The United States boats hundreds of military bases around the world, perhaps even thousands. But, no one knows for sure because even the Pentagon does not bother to keep track.

Historian and journalist Nick Turse explained, “What I’m relatively sure of is that there are no less than 1,077 US bases or sites in foreign countries….and likely there are many more than that, we just can’t be sure.”

What is known is that the US Defense budget is now about the equal to military spending in all other countries combined, and since 9/11, military and security expenditures have soared 119 percent.

Some of these bases are on tiny islands, and some, like Guantanamo Bay, serve dual purposes.

A great deal of money goes towards maintaining those bases, but once again, taxpayers and the military do not know exactly how much is allocated towards construction and maintenance at each.

Experts argue the reason for sustaining all these military installations abroad is to “maintain a far flung global empire,” and they point out that in places like Saudi Arabia and Okinawa, US military presence has been denounced by locals.

“Cleary there’s no need from the point of view of self defense for the US to have military installations all over the world. It’s really part of maintaining a far flung global empire, and at the heart of the empire and corporate and banking interests and elites that the US military is defending. Each place that the United States has a military base, the US has political power, economic power, and it’s a matter of coercion,” said Brian Becker of the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition.

A local Kyrgyz man told RT, “We are living here and raising our children. Why do we need this US Air base?”

In Okinawa, locals are forced to give up ten to twenty percent of the island to the US military for a base that they associate with noise, crime, and pollution. Some say the US plays under a double standard when it comes to this.

Becker argued, “The United States would never tolerate China having military bases in Canada, in Mexico, in Haiti, in the DR, in other words in countries that ring the United States. It’s not a question of law, it’s a question of might makes right. In other words, the United States is the 700 pound gorilla. It sits wherever it chooses to sit.”

While the US chooses to “sit wherever,” those most affected by these bases, both at home and abroad, don’t necessarily have a place at the table.

Jacob Hornberger, the president of The Future of Freedom Foundation said the secrecy of empire leads to the massive number of bases, a number which is not disclosed.

“They call it a Department of Defense, but we all know that’s just a charade,” he said. “This is really just a department of empire and war.”

He explained the extensive military empire combined with foreign aid to dictators generates anger and hate towards the US, which in turn which generates terrorism and the validation the government uses to take away freedoms from Americans in the United States.

“It’s really created nothing but problems for us,” Hornberger added.

David Vine, a professor of anthropology at American University explained the argument the Pentagon uses to justify its military presence across the globe is “self-defense”. Even when it comes to confirmed US allies like Japan, Italy and Germany, as well as various tiny islands through the Pacific and Indian oceans.

“Why does the United States have a military base in the middle of the Indian ocean? Why does the United States need one? Is it protecting the United States in anyway?” asked Vine. “Not to mention, why are we spending tens of millions of dollars on things like golf courses. The Pentagon has somewhere on the order of 230 golf courses around the world. Couldn’t we cut a few of those, close down a few of those, put the money back into Pell Grants or housing programs or homelessness diversion programs?”

Afghan President Hamid Karzai once admitted that with the US military bases established permanently in Afghanistan there’ll be economic prosperity and end to the violence in the country. At the same time, the US economy continues in dire straits yet little is being done to address it.

“We should take the money that we would spend to expend building US bases overseas and invest in real national security needs here at home. Not just the military, but going far beyond,” argued Vine.

Social workers should not delay placing a child with a suitable family of a different ethnicity, ministers say.

New adoption guidelines for England aim to break down the barriers faced by people looking to adopt children in England.

Education Secretary Michael Gove said too many were denied loving homes.

He said some of the limitations put on adopters in the past - based on sexual orientation, ethnicity and faith - was "social engineering of the worst kind".

In the past, many children from ethnic minorities do not get adopted because social workers have been keen to place them with families of the same background.
Long wait for adoption

The government said progress in adoption had stalled in recent years, with the number of children placed for adoption falling by 15% between March 2009 and 2010, and more children waiting longer to be adopted.

It said black children took on average over 50% longer to be placed for adoption than children from other ethnic groups.

And children aged over five were four times less likely to be adopted compared to children under five.

The law will not change but the new guidance will state that as long as prospective adopters show that they are able to care for the child then race should not be a factor.

They will also say that preventing families from adopting children of a different ethnic group is "unacceptable".

Each local authority will be closely monitored and those that persistently ignore the advice could have their adoption services contracted out to voluntary agencies.

Current advice states that social workers must give "due consideration to the child's religious persuasion, racial origin and cultural and linguistic background", but does not specify whether race should be regarded as outweighing other factors.
Interests of children

Mr Gove said thousands of children were currently in the care system waiting to be adopted.

"Every day they wait is a day they're denied the loving home all children deserve. But politically correct attitudes and ridiculous bureaucracy keep many of those children waiting far too long.

"What I do find difficult to accept is that we've created over time a web of rules that mean that we are not always putting the interests of children first.

"We all know that the length of time which children spend in institutional care once they be been taken into care is far too long, when those children could be adopted by loving parents."

He said the average amount of time children spend in care before being adopted is 21 months.
Updated guidance

Children's minister Tim Loughton announced in November last year that the government would be updating its guidance on adoption.

Currently, single people, married couples and cohabiting couples can all adopt.

Same sex couples can adopt in England, Wales and Scotland, but not in Northern Ireland.

Adopters in England and Wales must be aged over 21 (18 if one of a couple is the birth parent). There is no upper age limit, but the placing authority must be confident anyone adopting a child will have the energy required and be in good enough health to offer a stable home.

Likewise, if they can prove capable, people will not be disqualified for being disabled, overweight or having a medical condition.

People must also show that the can financially support a child.

A criminal record will not automatically prevent someone from adopting unless they, or someone in their household, has been convicted or cautioned for offences against a child.

A Briton extradited to the US for allegedly selling batteries for Iranian missiles has been taken into custody after arriving in Texas.

Retired businessman Christopher Tappin, 65, landed in Houston at 23:00GMT, after flying in from Heathrow.

He will make his first court appearance in El Paso on Monday.

Dan Cogdell, Mr Tappin's lawyer in the US, said he would "vigorously argue" for his client to be released on bail.

"There is no reasonable basis to believe that he is a flight risk or a danger. He is a respected businessman with no criminal record whatsoever," Mr Cogdell told BBC News.

Mr Tappin, of Orpington, south-east London, has fought against extradition through the British courts after being charged in the US with conspiring to export batteries which could be used in Hawk air defence missiles.

He faces a trial and a possible 35-year jail sentence - but says that he is the victim of entrapment.

British judges say the extradition is lawful and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has refused to intervene.
Plea agreement

Mr Tappin's lawyer, Karen Todner, said her client would likely enter into a plea agreement to reduce any sentence that may be imposed.

Last week the European Court of Human Rights refused to intervene in his case. Mr Tappin, a former president of the Kent Golf Society, was ordered to present himself to Heathrow Airport to be taken to the US for trial.

He left his house at around 08:00 GMT and arrived at Heathrow police station accompanied by his wife Elaine.

Shortly after 10.30am, British extradition officers took Mr Tappin to a plane where he was handed over to US marshals.

He will now be kept in custody over the weekend until his first court appearance on Monday morning and is not expected to be granted bail until Thursday or Friday.

On his arrival at Heathrow, Mr Tappin told reporters it was a "disgrace" that he was being extradited.

Hillary Clinton: "Laws and procedures have been followed"

On Wednesday, Prime Minister David Cameron said that Mr Tappin's case had been thoroughly considered by Home Secretary Theresa May - but that she was also looking carefully at the full findings of last year's extradition review.

Mr Tappin said: "I look to Mr Cameron to look after my rights and he has failed to do so.

"The Conservative government, while in opposition, promised to reform the law and they failed to do so and they've let me down, they've let you down, they've let the whole country down."

Mr Tappin said he was "not very confident at all" about the case because his witnesses were not permitted to testify via video and would not appear in person in the US.

Speaking to the BBC earlier, Mr Tappin attacked the UK-US Extradition Treaty, saying he felt he had been treated "very unfairly" by the British justice system.

Comparing his case to that of preacher Abu Qatada, whose deportation from the UK to Jordan was recently blocked, Mr Tappin added: "I feel that I don't have any human rights because I'm not a terrorist. If I was a terrorist, I would have more rights."

However, the prime minister's official spokesman said the two were "completely different cases."
'Years of talk'

Mr Tappin denies the allegations against him and says he is the victim of unlawful conduct by US law enforcement agents. In January, the Court of Appeal dismissed that argument, giving the green light to the extradition.

The Home Secretary authorised Mr Tappin's extradition in April 2011. The extradition request has also been approved by the High Court and Court of Appeal.

On Thursday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that under the UK-US extradition treaty, certain procedures had to be followed and that was what had happened in Mr Tappin's case.

Critics of the treaty say it makes the extradition of British nationals easier because the US authorities have to produce less evidence to support their case.

But last year, a massive review of extradition by a senior judge found that the treaty was fair to British citizens.

Asians Aborting Female Babies

Doctors at British clinics have been secretly filmed agreeing to terminate foetuses purely because they are either male or female. Clinicians admitted they were prepared to falsify paperwork to arrange the abortions even though it is illegal to conduct such “sex-selection” procedures.

Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary, said: “I’m extremely concerned to hear about these allegations. Sex selection is illegal and is morally wrong. I’ve asked my officials to investigate this as a matter of urgency.”

The disclosures will add to growing concerns about the regulation of abortion clinics and the apparent ability of women to secure terminations “on demand”.

The Daily Telegraph carried out an investigation into sex-selection abortions after concerns were raised that the procedures were becoming increasingly common for cultural and social reasons.

Forty children held in adult detention centres while seeking asylum are understood to have received a share of £1m compensation from the Home Office.

The children, thought to have been as young as 14, began legal proceedings in 2005 for being "wrongfully detained".

Previously, immigration officers could refuse to accept a person's claim to be under 18, if they suspected otherwise, and deal with them as an adult.

The government has since accepted its policy was unlawful, and changed it.

The compensation, plus a further £1m in costs, was paid to a number of boys and girls from countries including Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia and China, reports the Guardian newspaper.

The payments were made in 2009 and 2010 but have only just come to light.

The children had launched judicial review proceedings of the Home Office's policy in 2005.

Mark Scott, of Bhatt Murphy Solicitors, who represented the children in their judicial review proceedings, said: "It is obvious that vulnerable children who have done nothing other than to seek help should not be locked up by the State."
'Expert knowledge'

Before 2005, the judgement on whether they were 18 or over could be made by an individual immigration officer and they could then be kept under lock and key in an adult detention centre.

"All of our front-line staff receive specialist training to ensure that the welfare of young people is considered at every stage."

Austrian Authorities Angered by Honouring of Adolf Hitler`s Parents` Grave

I wonder how long it will be before the Austrian church and state authorities do to the grave of Adolf Hitler`s parents what the German church authorities did to that of Rudolf Hess?
At least it is comforting to know that their grave is for the moment respected and well care for.

An unidentified visitor to a cemetery in Leonding, Austria, has placed a vase on the grave of Hitler’s parents, engraved with the word "unforgettable" and the letters "SS". According to the state office for protection, the visitor posed as a Viennese artists and "Hitler’s grandson".

An increasing number of German skinheads have held vigils around this grave. On Hitler’s 120th birthday, a large wreath was placed on the grave and on all saints day it was also lavishly decorated.

Only the owner of the grave, who is a distant relative of Hitler, can remove such homage however. "Saldy the catholic parish does not know who the woman is otherwise we would have been in contact", said Mayor Walter Brunner (SP).

Investigations will be continued by Brunner with the help of the head of state protection, Michael Tischlinger. According to the Mayor, Parish Priest, Kurt Pittertschatsche wishes to encourage a legal review in the diocese. "We want to find out who the grave belongs to and how often such incidents have occurred" said Pittertschatsche.

For 74 year-old Hedwig Haberfellner who visited the grave of her husband in the cemetery yesterday, the most important thing is "that the graves look tidy". The parent’s grave in Leonding is visited by large numbers of tourists every year.

Since when has the placing of flowers on a grave been classed as an "incident"? How different Gross Deutschland is today than in her hay day during the Third Reich when our people were proud, strong and had a sense of purpose.
